COR Wheels at SEMA 2014

The yearly SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show has arrived and with it a variety of new and innovative automotive related product!  We here at COR Wheels had the opportunity of working in conjunction with John Toca, owner of Toca Designs in Chicago on a 2015 Newly designed Hyundai Genesis sedan.

The cars body was widened and in need of some aggressive wheels. John also working directly with Hyundai reached writing paper out to COR Wheels and was able to come up with a winning combination. The wheels are a 21″ Super Concave COR Wazarra design finished in Matte Black centers with Dark Brushed Titanium outer and inner barrels and hidden hardware.

The Ferrari 458 Italia w/COR Encor Forged Wheels

COR also outfitted each Encor model with a custom step-lip setup that creates a unique three-dimensional style. A special color-matched lip with brushed center finish was given to each of the forged wheels to match the overall styling of the 458 Italia.

The upgraded fitment helps to complement the overall styling of the Ferrari 458 Italia. The balance of white featured throughout the body and the Encor wheels is given a sharp contrast to help make them stand out with the addition of a carbon-wrapped roof and trunk lid.

But there was more to the upgraded fitment than just the black finish on the COR Precise wheels. Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 w/ COR Cinco Forged Wheels

When it comes to performance SUVs, Europe has a strong hold on the market with the Cayenne Turbo S, BMW X5 M, ML63 AMG, and others. They’re fast, refined, and exciting. But, America has its own SUV that’s ready to slug it out with the best of them and isn’t afraid to spin it’s COR Cinco forged wheels and burn some rubber in the process.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is a straightforward SUV. It’s big, has a refined interior, and a brutal, American V-8 that hammers the pavement with power. The second-generation SRT8 model features a potent naturally-aspirated 6.4-liter V-8 engine with 465 horsepower and 465 lb-ft. of torque. The team at Automotive Connoisseur Group has taken things a step further with COR Wheels and some engine upgrades that unleash the beast.

To start things off, Automotive Connoisseur Group upgraded the 6.4-liter HEMI engine with a few goodies to ensure its bark matched its bite. The stock exhaust system was removed and replaced with a custom-fabricated header-back system that optimizes backpressure and emits a fierce roar at the touch of the throttle. A new custom-fabricated cold air intake system was also installed to improve airflow and draw cooler air into each of the eight combustion chambers. The result of the upgrades is a dyno-certified 365 horsepower and 366 lb-ft. of torque to the wheels.

That’s a massive improvement over the stock figures, but it’s worthless unless that 365 whp is spinning COR Cinco forged wheels. Automotive Connoisseur Group opted to install a set of Cinco forged wheels on the black performance SUV in a wide 22 x 10 stance for the front and rear axles. Each of the forged aluminum alloy wheels were equipped with 305/35/22 Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta performance tires to achieve greater traction for the mighty 6.4-liter HEMI. The finishing touch for the COR wheels was a slick satin black center finish and gloss black outer rim to match the metallic black exterior paint of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.

Due to some unfortunate circumstances regarding a set of COR forged wheels, we feel that it is necessary to publicly address the situation and reiterate our company’s commitment to quality and customer service that has helped us build a strong reputation within the industry.

We are sure that many of you feel this response is long overdue, but given the sensitive nature and legalities involved, we had no alternative but to proceed with care, so as not to inflame an already volatile situation. Until this time, we have had nothing but excellent feedback and reviews from our clients concerning our products and service. In relation to the number of wheels that we have produced, our warranty adjustments have been less than one tenth of one-percent, which is a superb standard for any manufactured product. This is due in no small part to our commitment to building long lasting relationships with our distributors and returning customer base whose support is well recognized and very much appreciated.

The isolated incident that occurred with one of our clients was very unfortunate and unforeseeable, and we are thankful that there were no injuries. The product involved was designed, developed and third-party tested to ensure its integrity, strength, and reliability. The safety of our customers is extremely important to us, and is not a matter taken lightly by any member of our organization.

It is customary–and our preference–to service our customers directly. The client elected to bypass our resolution process by communicating with us through third parties (specifically an attorney). We sincerely hope that those following this series of events can appreciate that we had no other option than to turn this matter over to our product liability carrier, which exists specifically to address situations such as this. To be clear, the claim for warranty denied on the published letter was a response to the client’s attorney’s demand letter, and not COR Wheels refusing to stand behind its product. Prior to the involvement of legal counsel, the client was offered a full refund, regardless of any specific warranty considerations. We would like to clarify that the revisions made to our warranty were a direct result of the client’s attorney’s assertion that our terminology was vague. This does not speak of the safety and appropriateness of the product, which we feel is 100-percent safe for use on or off the track, but rather to the applicability of our warranty. With this revision, our warranty policy is more in-line with industry norms, which even at the OEM level precludes the use in a track environment.

Porsche unveils the new Cayenne Turbo S

When Porsche entered the SUV game with its first-generation Cayenne model, it upset quite a few enthusiasts around the world. How could a sports car company produce an SUV? Blasphemy! While that debate still rages on to this day among Porsche purists, there’s no question that the Cayenne has some serious performance – especially the Turbo S model.

Precise Light Concave 22″

Now in its third generation, the Porsche Cayenne has enjoyed a great deal of sales success. The new Porsche Cayenne Turbo S is looking to build upon that success but this time with a bit more snarl than your average German SUV.

 

Underneath the hood of the new Cayenne Turbo S sits a 4.8-liter twin-turbocharged V-8, similar to those found in the Cayenne Turbo and Panamera Turbo models. But this engine is a bit different in the fact that Porsche was able to squeeze out an additional 50 horsepower and 37 lb-ft. of torque thanks to some of that German engineering magic. This pushes the total output of the Turbo S to 550 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 553 lb-ft. of torque from 2,250 to 4,500 RPM. All of those ponies are sent through an eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission to all four wheels and shoots the SUV to 60 mph in a mere 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 175 mph as Porsche Traction Management works to prevent the tires from losing grip.

 

So what good is all that power without that Porsche sports car chassis? Well, the new Cayenne Turbo S is no pig when it comes to the turns thanks to the host of standard electronic aids and already sharp suspension setup. The SUV’s air suspension automatically adjusts to different driving styles thanks to Porsche Active Suspension Management and keeps things glued to the road with Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and its rear differential lock. A standard Porsche Dyanmic Chassis Control helps utilize active roll bars to stabilize the suspension through turns and eliminate a great deal of body roll that plagues most SUVs and crossovers.

 

Bringing this hulking powerhouse to a halt is a set of gigantic 15.4-inch front and 14.1-inch rear brake discs clenched by unrelenting calipers. But if owners want even more stopping power, they can check the box next to the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes for lightweight and fade free braking performance.

 

The exterior of the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo S also has a bit of a harder edge than its siblings. New gloss black front air inlets help to redirect cool air to the two snails feeding boost pressure to the engine and the large set of front brakes. A new set of Porsche Dynamic Lighting System Bi-Xenon headlights give drivers better nighttime visibility thanks to its adjustable light range and feature matching gloss black housing. The standard 21-inch Turbo II wheels as featured on other Porsche models come standard, but COR Wheels can change that with a set of their own Porsche Cayenne wheels. The final touch is the “Turbo S” badge on the rear lift gate to differentiate the SUV from the rest of the lineup.

The interior features custom-tailored luxury that complements the turbocharged performance of the SUV. Owners will have two standard choices of leather color combinations with contrasting stitching along with alcantara accents throughout the cabin. Embroidered floor mats, illuminated stainless steel door entry sills, a unique dashboard plaque, and carbon fiber trim set help to make the cabin an exciting yet comfortable place to be.

Porsche hasn’t officially announced the MSRP of its new Cayenne Turbo S model, but it has said that deliveries will start in January of 2013. We’re guessing that it will cost a bit more than the Cayenne Turbo’s $108,750 price, think $120,000.
